This July will mark seven years since I first set foot on Kenyan soil. I had no idea what I was stepping in to. Two things happened during that first month I was in Kenya. . .

1. I absolutely loved Kenyan community…their welcoming spirit, sincerity, generosity, and love for people drew me in right away.

2. I was devastated by the poverty I witnessed in the slums in Turbo…the poor sanitation, lack of resources, scarcity of food, and rampant addiction. But the prevalence of child abuse and neglect and the high number of children who were not in school was even more disturbing.

My response?

I have to do something. This place isn’t that big.  There has to be a way to make a difference.

That naïve spirit paved the way for me to dream some big dreams.

The origins of BEAM started in January 2014 after I returned to Kenya for a second time and my mom agreed to sponsor a young girl in the slums to go to a Christian boarding school (Brook of Faith). We learned through those small beginnings that education alone was not enough. These kids also needed counseling and emotional support to work through their difficult backgrounds.

Fast forward to 2019 and BEAM is assisting over thirty children to receive a high quality education. We also began a counseling center in the slums where we offer one-on-one counseling, psychosocial education, and empowerment programs.  Helping make those big dreams from 2012 start to become a reality has only been possible with a team of Kenyans.  BEAM currently employs a spiritual director, two social workers, an accountant, three professional counselors, multiple caregivers, and other support staff.

The work of BEAM Kenya is made possible by your generosity: through monthly partnerships, special one-time donations, and through prayer. Currently, we are in need of an additional $2300 per month in order to reach financial sustainability.

You can be a part of making our dreams for change become a reality. You can be a part of bringing a brighter future for children, their families, and their communities for generations to come.
